BET
GIVES NEW MEANING TO "HEADING BACK TO SCHOOL" WITH ITS POPULAR
2008 BET BLACK COLLEGE TOUR
BET Kicks Off the Highly-Anticipated Community Event Efforts from New
Orleans' Xavier University on Friday, September 5
Washington, DC (BlackNews.com) - The BET Black College Tour
returns for a 7th consecutive year of bringing non-stop excitement,
social activities and raising community awareness at various
historically black colleges and universities across the country during
this fall 2008 school season. New Orleans' Xavier University kicks off
the Black College Tour on Friday, September 5, the first stop
of 16 events, all exclusively catering to college students.
BET offers a full day of entertainment, contests, games, activities
and health information for event attendees; and will have its Emmy®
Award winning Rap-It-Up Campaign conducting free onsite HIV testing
and BET's Be Heard initiative offering onsite voter registration.
BET's popular roster of on-air personalities, including Terrence,
Rocsi, Tigger, Alesha Renee, Q45 and Danella will also be on hand to
host some of the college events, featuring special appearances and
music performances from today's hottest up and coming Universal
Motown and Interscope Records artists.
BET News' THE TRUTH WITH JEFF JOHNSON host Jeff Johnson
will also join this year's BET Black College Tour on
several tour stops to bring thought-provoking roundtable campus
discussions to college students that examine issues impacting
African Americans, and also their outlook on the historic 2008
presidential election.
"BET is proud to partner with our esteemed group of
marketing partners in bringing back our popular BET Black
College Tour for a seventh year in support of HBCUs,"
said Michelle Garner, vice president of BET Consumer Engagement.
"This highly successful community-driven effort effectively
reaches young adults, providing them with not only positive
activities, but vital health and public information."
Event sponsors Foot Locker, McDonald's, Pepsi, Universal
Motown and Verizon Wireless partner with BET in bringing
fun-filled sponsor related activities, including the
McDonald's spoken word contest; the Pepsi Freestyle Rap
Contest; the Verizon Wireless 3-point shoot out; and a Foot
Locker 2-on-2 basketball competition. Other Black College
Tour contests and activities offering exciting prizes and
premiums will be a video skillz challenge, a photo booth tent,
a bungee run, basketball and career tents with internship
opportunities and information. One lucky student will even be
offered a paid internship opportunity.
